Summary

LEARN HOW TO HACK HUMAN MOVEMENT

Join the movement that has reached millions of athletes and coaches; learn how to perform basic maintenance on your body, unlock your human potential, live pain free…and become a Supple Leopard。

Improve your athletic performance, extend your athletic career, treat body stiffness and achy joints, and rehabilitate injuries—all without having to seek out a coach, doctor, chiropractor, physical therapist, or masseur。 In Becoming a Supple Leopard, Kelly Starrett—founder of MobilityWod。com—shares his revolutionary approach to mobility and maintenance of the human body and teaches you how to hack your own human movement, allowing you to live a healthy, happier, more fulfilling life。

Performance is what drives the human animal, but the human animal can be brought to an abrupt halt by dysfunctional movement patterns。 Oftentimes, the factors that impede performance are invisible to not only the untrained eye, but also the majority of athletes and coaches。 Becoming a Supple Leopard makes the invisible visible。 In this one of a kind training manual, Starrett maps out a detailed system comprised of more than two hundred techniques and illuminates common movement errors that cause injury and rob you of speed, power, endurance, and strength。 Whether you are a professional athlete, a weekend warrior, or simply someone wanting to live healthy and free from restrictions, Becoming a Supple Leopard, will teach you how to maintain your body and harness your genetic potential。

Learn How to:
Pprevent and rehabilitate common athletic injuries
Overhaul your movement habits

How good is it? I don't know yet。 Not sure where to start; it's a little overwhelming。 Kind of feels like reading a thorough cookbook when I don't really know how to cook at all。 I don't totally love his vibe, it's pretty macho, but who cares if he has good information。 How good is it? Personally not particularly fun of/impressed by the approach of using fascia release and the methods here are almost completely relied on that。 Not sure this is the way to be supple leopards, which do not use them。。。

Great reference book for Personal Trainers & athletes。 I hesitate to refer to this as "the best fitness book" as I've heard so many do。 As it stands, it is currently used as part of my monitor riser(along with an anatomy and physiology reference book)。 I can't say I've had to pull it out and reference it too frequently, but ever so often we have one client come along who really challenges our brains。 I'd buy it again if I had to。 Great reference book for Personal Trainers & athletes。 I hesitate to refer to this as "the best fitness book" as I've heard so many do。 As it stands, it is currently used as part of my monitor riser(along with an anatomy and physiology reference book)。 I can't say I've had to pull it out and reference it too frequently, but ever so often we have one client come along who really challenges our brains。 I'd buy it again if I had to。 。。。more

What an absolute prick of a human being。 Reading anything other than the exercise-specific information is absolutely unbearable。 Somewhere in the internet exists a blog post that sums up the key points- read that instead

When I say "read" with this book, I mean used OFTEN。 Kelly has provided a go-to resource for diving into the world of recovery and movement。 As a fitness professional, I absolutely admire this book and the amount of information in it。 When I say "read" with this book, I mean used OFTEN。 Kelly has provided a go-to resource for diving into the world of recovery and movement。 As a fitness professional, I absolutely admire this book and the amount of information in it。 。。。more

Can see why people like it。 A good reference and some good context for a lot of discussions。

I found that "Rebuilding Milo" is a clearer tome for self-diagnosis of athletic issues (and couch potato issues as well) but this is an excellent companion to Dr。 Horschig's book。Both KStar and Aaron are must-follows on the Gram to get short vids of their tests and exercises for getting us moving painlessly。 I found that "Rebuilding Milo" is a clearer tome for self-diagnosis of athletic issues (and couch potato issues as well) but this is an excellent companion to Dr。 Horschig's book。Both KStar and Aaron are must-follows on the Gram to get short vids of their tests and exercises for getting us moving painlessly。 。。。more

1/22/22Book has movement archetypes, recommendations for fixing lagging archetypes。 Didn’t find that helpful, but found overall of moving well (ex tissue and joint health, no crunching, good and stable body positioning and posture at all times) intriguing。

If you want one book to increase your athletic performance - look no further。 Currently focusing on mobility issues and various underfiring muscles。 This book is a great resource for people who want to understand their PT better or supplement PT with own exercises。 I truly believe that in order to have successful / sustainable PT one needs to understand the system of the body and how it moves。 This book aids in the understanding of that。

I will have to re-read this book and I will also have to buy this book because you can spend your whole lifetime just working through the path Kelly Starrett has laid here。

Getting through Part A and Part B can be a little daunting, and it can seem repetitive at times, but the same repetition helped to drill some solid principles that the book is trying to convey in to my head, and after you grasp the lay of the book, it's an easy read, and after while you can pick and choose workouts according to you level in your fitness journey, while still helping you find out right forms for your movements。 Getting through Part A and Part B can be a little daunting, and it can seem repetitive at times, but the same repetition helped to drill some solid principles that the book is trying to convey in to my head, and after you grasp the lay of the book, it's an easy read, and after while you can pick and choose workouts according to you level in your fitness journey, while still helping you find out right forms for your movements。 。。。more

Kawał solidnej wiedzy, napisanej po inzynierksu。 Trochę też czuć radykalizm poglądów, pewnie są książki, które wychwalają inne spojrzenie na mechanikę, ale nie muszę ich czytać。

Awesome book about movement and mobility。 The principles outlined in this text is concise and easy to implement。 I came to this book after some back pain from constant sitting, and over developed musculature on one side。 The first principle on spinal stability and bracing the spine whenever performing most movements, and that our spine is not designed to bend all that much, (our body is essentially a giant hinge and we're supposed to bend at the hips and keep the spine tight and straight) was ve Awesome book about movement and mobility。 The principles outlined in this text is concise and easy to implement。 I came to this book after some back pain from constant sitting, and over developed musculature on one side。 The first principle on spinal stability and bracing the spine whenever performing most movements, and that our spine is not designed to bend all that much, (our body is essentially a giant hinge and we're supposed to bend at the hips and keep the spine tight and straight) was very eye opening and once you read about it you'll notice the body performing spinal faults constantly (in yourself and especially other people)。If you care about longevity, being able to move around in your old age and to prevent or rehab injury this book is probably your best read。 I'll be coming back to this text as a reference probably for the rest of my life。 。。。more

The style and design of the book are dated, given what we have all learned about how to engage an audience。 Photographs lack detail, forcing the reader to examine the caption in order to then re-examine the photo in order to identify a small difference in foot placement。 A lot of information is repeated, and the emphasis is very much on proper form for Cross-fit, a sport that a Physical Therapist friend of mine calls the "Full PY employment sport" due to its long-term negative impact on the body The style and design of the book are dated, given what we have all learned about how to engage an audience。 Photographs lack detail, forcing the reader to examine the caption in order to then re-examine the photo in order to identify a small difference in foot placement。 A lot of information is repeated, and the emphasis is very much on proper form for Cross-fit, a sport that a Physical Therapist friend of mine calls the "Full PY employment sport" due to its long-term negative impact on the body。 。。。more

This is an awesome book on mobility work: from correct form to a progression of movements and techniques to remedy reduced mobility in all the joints。 The author has an annoying style of continually “selling” his approach to mobility work; he must have had a lot of pushback but we’ve bought the book, we’ve read past the intro (past the first half!)。 No need to keep selling。 It’s probably just his writing style that I don’t like。 Doesn’t matter: content is great。

This is very good in terms of being a new and interesting take on mobility。 The resources are extensive and it gives good programming advice。 The descriptions of exercise are pretty clear, and the principles of movement are described in detail。 A lot of Kelly's content is great。 He was one of the first people to advocate ATG squats in mainstream, as well as point out all the flaws with western lifestlye and how they influence many physiological diseases we suffer from。 I'm dropping the rating to This is very good in terms of being a new and interesting take on mobility。 The resources are extensive and it gives good programming advice。 The descriptions of exercise are pretty clear, and the principles of movement are described in detail。 A lot of Kelly's content is great。 He was one of the first people to advocate ATG squats in mainstream, as well as point out all the flaws with western lifestlye and how they influence many physiological diseases we suffer from。 I'm dropping the rating to 3 stars because I don't like some of the content。 The concept of torque is an odd one in many contexts。 The squatting style of excessive knees out just doesn't make sense。 I rarely see other coaches advocating for it。 In addition, the descriptions of "external rotation, armpit forward" as an overhead position in the snatch and clean and jerk is just flat out wrong。 It doesn't jive with top end international weightlifting coaching at all。 If the book were just about general mobility and troubleshooting bad position, without the odd descriptions of basic movements, it would be much better。 。。。more

I liked this book a lot and thought the author really knew what he was talking about - until I reached the explanation for the kettlebell exercises。 The movements suggested in this book *will* hurt you at some point。 I’ve read enough kettlebell specific books and also trained (and hurt myself through bad movement…) enough to know。 It was truly bad advice and made me wonder whether the rest of the book just sounds good and actually is not。Also, I skipped lots of exercise explanations since the bo I liked this book a lot and thought the author really knew what he was talking about - until I reached the explanation for the kettlebell exercises。 The movements suggested in this book *will* hurt you at some point。 I’ve read enough kettlebell specific books and also trained (and hurt myself through bad movement…) enough to know。 It was truly bad advice and made me wonder whether the rest of the book just sounds good and actually is not。Also, I skipped lots of exercise explanations since the book has plenty that will not match your current needs。 。。。more

This is a very detailed (nerdy?) book about mobility。 It goes into the details of common movements (squats, pull ups, 。。。) and common faults。 It then prescribes mobility movements that can help you become a supple leopard, moving smoothly through life and training。 Even with the numerous illustrations, it is sometimes hard to fully grasp the movement descriptions and I wouldn't say I am comfortable implementing all the movements without having someone guide me through them。 This is a very detailed (nerdy?) book about mobility。 It goes into the details of common movements (squats, pull ups, 。。。) and common faults。 It then prescribes mobility movements that can help you become a supple leopard, moving smoothly through life and training。 Even with the numerous illustrations, it is sometimes hard to fully grasp the movement descriptions and I wouldn't say I am comfortable implementing all the movements without having someone guide me through them。 。。。more
